HeroClix - Tournament Rules
This is Ty from House of Heroes again and I wanted to finally put out the format for this year’s Battle of the Venues. I have listened to a lot of feedback from different players and I wanted to make sure that we came up with a tournament that would be really fun to play in and challenging for all level of players. The overall theme for this year’s tournament will be Marvel vs. DC. I always wanted to play around with this theme and I hope you will like what we have put together. What follows will be the set format for the 6 games of Battle of the Venues '08.
Round 1 (games 1 & 2): Team-Up Sealed Event.
1) 2 players will play together as a 600 point team
2) Each player will build a 300 point team from the 4 boosters they buy together
3) The 4 boosters must be either Marvel or DC (sets to be determined)
4) 3 action turns will be staggered between the teams. Player (A1) from the first team will take 3 actions, then player (B1) from the second team will take 3 actions, followed by player (A2) from the first team and lastly player (B2) from the second team will finish with 3 actions.
Round 2 (games 3 & 4): Solo Universe Event.
1) Each player will build a 400 point DC team and a separate 400 point Marvel team
2) Figures will be unrestricted, but restricted to their respected universe
3) Prior to the start to the 2 games, both players will roll a dice. The winner of the dice roll will choose to play either their DC team or their Marvel team. Their opponent will play the opposite universe.
4) NO feat cards, NO BFCs, NO special objects will be allowed
Round 3 (games 5 & 6): 4x4 Team Event.
1) The 4 players from a venue will play together as 1 team, against another 4 player venue team.
2) The 4 player team will have a total of 500 points to divide between the 4 players, and each player may only play with 1 figure.
3) Each figure can come from any universe, will be unrestricted, and must cost between 50 to 150 points each.
4) NO feat cards, NO BFCs, NO special objects, and NO bystanders will be allowed
5) Double Take Special Rule: if you and an opponent are playing the same figure, and you roll a double to attack, the attack fails automatically, and the figure is given an action token. Double 1’s will still cause a player to loose a click, and double 6’s are considered a fail as well.
So, as you can see I have gone back to basics and have tried to encourage multi-player games. I would strongly suggest that you practice the 4x4 Team event format with your 4 player team as much, and as soon as possible. Time management will be important with 8 players at a table. I hope you will enjoy the overall format for the tournament and I will talk to you soon.
